The 1300 mile, 2009 journey departed Manchester, crossed the Channel between Poole and Cherbourg and headed south east across France, Switzerland and northern Italy. The plan was to travel clockwise to Egypt via Syria and Jordan and return to the UK across Libya and Tunisia.
The 2010 route will follow an anti-clockwise direction so that I can cross the Sahara before it gets too hot and to return via eastern and central Europe as late as possible in the spring, allowing temperatures to rise sufficiently for a comfortable crossing of the Alps. I will call in at Portogruaro, the Italian town where my first attempt ended, then hopefully retrace my first route in reverse.
